This year, Vienna will once again be the capital of fungal science for a week – and a meeting place for all those who are passionate about the world of fungi. Immerse yourself in the fascinating kingdom of fungi: They are the architects of our ecosystems, drivers of science, business, and design – and have always been a source of inspiration for art and culture. The Pilzfestspiele celebrate their diversity and puts them in the spotlight.
Look forward to impressive macro photography, interactive workshops, captivating lectures, and breathtaking documentaries. This year, a particularly broad program awaits you – with new formats, exciting guests, and many opportunities to get involved.
We can't wait to celebrate the wonderful world of fungi with you for a week!

Welcome to Funga
This year, we're not only celebrating the fascinating world of fungi, but also setting a precedent for the long-overdue recognition of fungi in international species conservation. Although fungi play a fundamental role in life on our planet—as decomposers, networkers, and climate protectors—they have often been forgotten in environmental laws, conservation strategies, and public awareness.
With the Flora Fauna Funga initiative, over 1,300 scientists, activists, and citizens from 77 countries are demanding that fungi be recognized and protected on an equal basis with plants (flora) and animals (fauna). Therefore, we are particularly pleased Giuliana Furci, founder of the Fungi Foundation and pioneer of this movement, as our guest of honor! With her work, she makes visible to the world what remains hidden beneath our feet: the vast, complex, and vital network of the Funga.
