The Pilzfestspiele celebrate their diversity and puts them in the spotlight.

Auditorium

In the University of Vienna's main lecture hall, leading figures from science and practice will discuss the big picture—the latest findings, global connections, and future questions surrounding the most fascinating organisms on our planet.

Welcome to Funga
This year, we're not only celebrating the fascinating world of fungi, but also setting a precedent for the long-overdue recognition of fungi in international species conservation. Although fungi play a fundamental role in life on our planet—as decomposers, networkers, and climate protectors—they have often been forgotten in environmental laws, conservation strategies, and public awareness.
With the Flora Fauna Funga initiative, over 1,300 scientists, activists, and citizens from 77 countries are demanding that fungi be recognized and protected on an equal basis with plants (flora) and animals (fauna). Therefore, we are particularly pleased Giuliana Furci, founder of the Fungi Foundation and pioneer of this movement, as our guest of honor! With her work, she makes visible to the world what remains hidden beneath our feet: the vast, complex, and vital network of the Funga.
