With 5.5 million preserved plants, fungi, and lichens, the herbarium of the Natural History Museum Vienna encompasses material from all continents and taxonomic groups and is the result of centuries of research, expeditions, and lively exchange with other institutions at home and abroad. More important than ever, the collection is being studied by scientists from all over the world using state-of-the-art methods, thus making an invaluable contribution to biodiversity research. Take a look behind the scenes of one of the largest and oldest botanical collections in the world.

The meeting point for the tour is at the side entrance of the Natural History Museum – Burgring 7, 1010 Vienna
Course instructor
Andreas Berger
Andreas Berger is a botanist and curator of the herbarium of the Natural History Museum Vienna, as well as a lecturer at the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research at the University of Vienna. His research interests include collection-based biodiversity research, the history of botany, and the species-rich coffee family.
